Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the GIST Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Final Degree Requirement: Applicants must already hold a final degree or expect to obtain one before enrolling at GIST. This ensures that applicants have completed their undergraduate studies or will do so in the near future.
  • Equivalent Bachelor’s Degree: The applicant’s bachelor’s degree should be equivalent to a Korean bachelor’s degree. This ensures that applicants have the necessary educational background to pursue higher studies at GIST.
  • International Student Status: The scholarship is open to international students. This means that applicants must be citizens of countries other than South Korea.
  • Proficiency in English: Applicants must have a good command of the English language. Since all classes at GIST are taught in English and the thesis is also written in English, proficiency in the language is necessary for successful participation in the program.

Documents Required 

  • Official degrees and transcripts are required.
  • Two signed and stamped letters of recommendation.
  • English language test report: TOEFL (BT) 80 / TOEFL (PBT) 550 / IELTS 6.5 / TOEIC 750 / NEW TEPS 327. Alternatively, a professional English language proficiency certificate from the home university.
  • A copy of the applicant’s passport is necessary.

Benefits

  • Full tuition fee waiver for international students.
  • Monthly stipend of 140,000 Won for MS students and 295,000 Won for PhD students.
  • Meal allowance of 100,000 Won for both MS and PhD students (subject to completing at least 9 credits in the previous semester).
  • International student allowance of 120,000 Won for both MS and PhD students (requires a GPA of 3 or higher out of 4.5 in the previous semester).
  • Research assistantship of 6,400,000 Won per year for MS students and 13,740,000 Won per year for PhD students participating in research projects.

How to Apply?

  • Online application is required for the GIST South Korea scholarship.
  • A matriculation fee is applicable, but it can be waived upon recommendation from the dean/head of the department/college.
  • To ensure a successful application, all applicants must diligently complete the GIST online application form.
  • If certain sections do not apply, write “NA” instead of leaving them blank.
