Muslims wake up before Dawn, they eat and then they start their fasting period when the azan for Fajar is called out loud. The fast breaks at sunset, when the azan for maghrib is called out.

A muslim is not allowed eat and drink anything. A muslim must refrain from any kind of sin. Lying, Intimate relations, back biting, abusive language etc everything is forbidden during the fasting period. The motive of fasting is to develop “Taqwah”.
