DPT is the first professional degree in physical therapy endorsed by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan(HEC) comprises of 5 years (10 semesters), equivalent 17 years of schooling. The degree program will produce physical therapy professionals who will be Doctors of Physical Therapy and will be competent to diagnose and treat movement dysfunctions due to injuries or diseases by using all physical means including; manual therapy techniques, exercise therapy, electrotherapy and preventative and corrective measures. Physical Therapists with the DPT degree will be practitioners of choice to whom the public will have direct access for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions, and environmental barriers related to movement, function, and health.
Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy is a health care profession primarily concerned with the prevention or remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention. It is a distinct form of care which can be performed either in isolation or in conjunction with other types of medical management. In addition to clinical practice, other activities encompassed in the physical therapy profession include research, education, consultation, and administration.
Career and Scope After DPT in Pakistan
Eligibility Criteria:
- A minimum overall score of 60% in the Pre-Medical group of Higher Secondary School Certification or equivalent in Pakistan.
- British Advanced Level Certification with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The score should be over 60% (Pre-Medical) in the IBCC Equivalence.
- US Grade-12 or Canadian-Grade 12 or 13 Diploma (minimum GPA 3.0) accompanied by an Equivalence
- Certificate from the IBCC of at least 60% HSSC Pre-Medical qualification (that will require the inclusion of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English in the final 3 years).
Scope:
This course will equip you to become a physiotherapist, helping patients with physical difficulties arising from illness, injury, disability or aging. Physiotherapists promote health and wellbeing and assist rehabilitation by developing body systems – in particular, the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
